Two Fly Simulator’s OTD (Other Training Device), card up its sleeve is a simple, yet effective idea: run it through a desktop computer.

With the use of this system, training required in an FNTP (Flight and Navigation Procedures Trainer) can be reduced, thus decreasing training costs on such a device and the ability to make it all work on a regular computer makes everything simpler – and more cost-effective.

The 2FS OTD is comprised of a Multifunction Control Display Unit (MCDU), a Display Controller (CD), a Remote Instrument Controller (RIC), Guidance Controller, Autopilot Controller, Cyclic Control Head (joystick), and a Display Unit (DU). The embedded FMS also provides complete and identical PHASE 7 capabilities.

2FS has developed its own software to bring the hardware to life and cope with the demands that such a solution is subject to. Updates are regular, with the FMS navigation database getting monthly updates, for example. Aircraft updates are subject to the manufacturer updates and, of course, the base software gets updates whenever 2FS completes a maintenance/new update cycle.

The solution can provide tremendous advantages to pilots and companies, improve training, and reduce costs (besides the initial investment). It is also possible to increase the complexity of scenarios, better preparing crews for harder situations in a multitude of operational mission types: off-shore transportation, Search and Rescue (SAR), Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), and other helicopter applications.

2FS claims savings up to 13.200EUR during the initial training of a single pilot and up to 6.000EUR per year on recurring training. These are, definitely, not negligible numbers at all.
